Shower Tile Installation
Waterproofed, tiled showers built to stay dry behind the tile
Nearly every failed shower we are called out to failed behind the tile, not on it. So we build showers the other way round: backer board, then a proper waterproofing system over every wet wall and into the pan, seams and corners banded, the pan sloped correctly to the drain, and only then the tile. Niches are framed and waterproofed before they are tiled, benches are sloped so water runs off them, the curb is wrapped rather than just coated, and the changes of plane get silicone rather than grout so they can move without cracking. It is slower than tiling straight onto green board, and it is the difference between a shower that lasts twenty years and one that stains the ceiling below it in three.
