Popcorn Ceiling Texture Removal

Scraped off, skimmed flat and refinished — without wrecking the room

Free EstimateAsheville & 50 Miles · Mon – Sat

Taking a popcorn ceiling off is the messiest job in the trade, and the mess is the part most people underestimate. We seal the room first — floors, walls, doorways and every vent — then scrape the texture off wet so it comes away in sheets instead of hanging in the air, repair whatever the scraping finds underneath, skim the ceiling flat, sand it and leave it ready for paint. Ceilings sprayed before the early 1980s can contain asbestos, so if the house is that age we will tell you to have it tested before anyone scrapes anything; we will not take that risk with your house and we will not ask you to. The whole room comes back clean, not just the ceiling.

Our Process

1

Check the Age

If the house could have been sprayed before the early 1980s we ask for an asbestos test before we quote. It is a cheap test and it is not worth skipping.

2

Seal the Room

Floors, walls, doorways and vents sealed, fixtures dropped or covered. This is most of the first day and it is what keeps the mess in one room.

3

Scrape Wet

The texture is wetted and scraped in sections so it comes off in sheets, then the bare ceiling is repaired where the scraper finds old damage.

4

Skim & Sand

Two skim coats, sanded flat and dusted down, then the room unsealed and cleaned. You get a ceiling ready for primer.
